Grammar - Revision

Ahoy!

Today is our last day of grammar! And I thought it would be great to make a review of what have we learned about grammar in the past weeks.

In this activity, you will have to identify what words are we looking for. If you are doing this activity in the digital version, you have to click HERE and drag the words into the correct cell. And if you are doing low tech, you can print the activity and round the words with the correct colour or write them in the right place.

First we are refreshing the concept of noun:

Now you have to round in black, drag the word to the back cell or write with a black pen in your notebook all the nouns in the list:

Next, we are going to review what are the verbs:

Round in red, drag the word to the red cell or write with a red pen in your notebook all the verbs in the list:

Now, this is the song that will help us to remember what pronouns are:

Round in pink, drag the word to the pink cell or write with a pink pen in your notebook all the pronouns in the list:

Next, we are reviewing the adjectives:

Round in blue, drag the word to the blue cell or write with a blue pen in your notebook all the pronouns in the list:

I hope this has served as a review for you.

See you tomorrow!

Grammar - Adjectives

Hey, sailors!

Today we are going to talk about a new type of word: Adjectives. We are already using them but we didn't know that was their name.

We use adjectives to describe things and we use a blue pen to write adjectives.

We are going to start slowly: Paint every puzzle piece they way it indicates you.

So we have a "green puzzle piece" and a "striped puzzle piece". The adjectives describe our puzzle pieces.

If you understand this, you can keep going and take a look:

Here we have some words we can cut out and create a lot of sentences. If you want to download it, you can click HERE

And the las adjective activity is related to the previous one, but I created some sentences and... Someone has messed them up! Could you, please, put them in the right order?

You are doing great!

See you tomorrow!

Grammar - Verbs

Hey, sailors!

In today's lesson, we are going to talk about a type of word called verb. Verbs are the words that indicate an action. We can call it a doing-something word.

We write verbs with a red pen, so bring it tomorrow to class. We will see what are the kids in the picture doing.

You can download HERE this sheet if you want to practice a little bit more:

Don't worry. I am only giving you a preview of tomorrow's plan.

Goodbye!

Grammar - Pronouns

Ahoy, sailors!

Today we are going to talk about pronouns. Pronouns are short words we use to avoid repeating nouns constantly.

I just want you to get familiar with these words because it's a bit difficult to understand so we are going to explain it in class.

The words we are getting familiar with are: I, you, she, he, it, we, you, they. This is the activity we are going to do tomorrow:

You just have to do two things: Read this sheet and bring a pink pen to class.

See you tomorrow!

Grammar - Plurals

Hey, sailors!

Today we are going to learn how to say when there is a bunch of something. It is easier than you think.

When you have a noun that indicates there is only one thing, and you want to say there are two or more, you just... Add an S! The S is our friend now, she likes to hold our hands for not leave us alone.

I prepared some slides so you can see it easily. If you want to take a look and play the final game, click HERE. In case you can't do it online right now, you can write in your notebook which of the next words are written with an S at the end because of the plural:

If you don't understand it, we will see it tomorrow.

Bye!

Grammar - A & An

Ahoy!

Do you remember the vowels? Yes? And do you remember how we pronounce them when they are alone? If your answer is no, go and review it because we need to know before we keep going. This is important because we need to know how to write and say things.

If you want to indicate there is one piece of something, you have to use the preposition "a" before the noun. But if the noun starts with a vowel, we have to change that "a" to "an".

Let's see if you understand it!

Here you have some pictures, and you have to write under the image every noun (remember we use black pen for nouns) and its correct preposition: A or AN.

Take notes of your questions and we will answer them together in class.

Bye!

Grammar - Common nouns

Hey, sailors!

Today we are going to learn about the common nouns. Do you remember the proper nouns? Well, the common nouns are the one that references general things and they don't need a capital letter. We write nouns with a black pen.

In the activity I propose for today, we have to draw some objects inside the photo frames and post-its and write sentences that make sense with our drawings. You can do it online HERE

See you tomorrow!

Grammar - Proper nouns

Hey, sailors!

Today we are going to learn what are the proper nouns. These are special words that we use to name a person, a city, or something with a specific name. These words always start with a capital letter and we are going to write them with a black pen.

Let's practice!

I am leaving you here the images if you want to play with a notebook on your own, but if you want to play online, you have to click HERE. In the online version, you have to drag the picture into the photo frame and write the correct name under it. Don't forget the capital letter!

We will review everything tomorrow.

Bye!

Grammar - Sentece sticking

Ahoy!

Do you remember the stories we read a couple weeks ago? Fat Cat on a Mat and Lazy Jack? Well... We are going to read their stories again because we are going to do an activity in which they are the main characters.

I'm leaving you here the FAT CAT ON A MAT story and LAZY JACK story if you want to refresh your mind, you only have to click over the title of the story you want to read.

I will give you some words and you will have to establish the order to create a sentence. Remember we are talking and reading in English!

These are the words we are playing with:

And these are the sentences' structures you need to create the sentences:

If you wan to play online, you can click HERE. You only have to select the word on the last page and drag it to the correct position.

I know you can do it, so here is another way of playing. The rules are the same. So here it is:

For playing online, click HERE.

Bye!

Grammar - Rainbow capitals

 Hey, sailors!

Today we are going to start a new section called Grammar. Here we are going to learn how to use the English language, now we know how to read it.

The first game is called Rainbow capitals, and it's very easy to play. You will have every letter of the alphabet and we will try to order the letters in alphabetical order. You can download the sheet HERE or you can grab it from this image:

When everybody knows how to order the letters correctly, all of you will have a competition. I will say a word out loud, and you will have to raise your hand quickly because the first one will be the one that will answer me the first letter of the word. If you want to study some vocabulary to be ready for the game, you can download THIS alphabet formation.

See you tomorrow!

Spelling - UR sound

Hey, sailors!

Today we are going to review the last vowel sound spelling, which means that all of you are almost professionals!

We are going to work with the UR sound, so you can start by playing this song!

I have prepared you an activity, but you already know how you have to work, because we did it with the other sounds. It goes like this: I show you some pictures, you write what it shows and you practice saying out loud the word. Tomorrow in class we will check our answers together.

I will show you some pictures and you will have to write and say out loud the word that represents the image.

We will check them in class and we will say the words together so we will be sure everybody is saying the words properly. This only take a couple of minutes.

For this activity you will need three colours so you can paint the petals of the flowers. You will need RED, BLUE and YELLOW.
The RED crayon will be used for the flowers that have a short vowel sound in them.
The BLUE crayon will be used for the flowers that have a long vowel sound in them.
The YELLOW crayon will be used for the flowers that have other vowel sound in it.

We will check our work in the next class.
Bye!

ER and AR sounds

 Ahoy, sailors!

Today is almost the last day of working with sounds individually! From now on, we are going to work with them mixed.

In this lesson, we are going to work with the ER sound, which can be found in words like mixER, summER, wintER, or gERm.

We also are going to work with the AR sound, which can be found in words like ARm, cAR, or stAR.

In both cases, we are not going to pronounce the R sound as hard as we usually do, it must be really soft, almost inaudible. Here I leave you both sounds songs so you can hear at home how are their pronunciations:

Every time you hear the ER sound, you have to make this movement:

And every time you hear the AR sound, you have to act like this:

Here I'm leaving you some writing activities, the last ones of this lessons. But we will work with writing skills in other ways.
